Goal Setting - How I Achieved One of My Most Important Goals

I've achieved one of my most important life goals!

This is a powerful goal that I set on April 2, 2004.

How can I remember the date so clearly?

Because this is the day that I gave birth to my second daughter, Grace. That day is etched into my mind because after years of infertility and frustration, I finally had another beautiful baby to love and care for...and as a side note, it was my 38th birthday! Yes, Grace was born on my birthday!

So, what was this goal that I set for myself on that day?

Here is the goal that I set for myself.

My Goal:I am so happy and grateful that I 'm home with baby Grace everyday. She is with Mom and Dad everyday until she starts school.

Today is that day.

Check off my goal, cross it out and put a smiley face beside it!

My little girl started Kindergarten and I know that I've not only achieved my goal, I've sent to school a loving and kind little girl that can't wait to see what she's going to learn.

Look what I created! My little girl home with me everyday.

She hasn't been passed from babysitter to babysitter, dropped off at a daycare at 6:30 a.m. and picked up at 5:30 p.m. or sick with ear infections every other month. In fact, Grace hasn't even been sick, not even a runny nose.

I'm not telling you this because I think I'm a better mother, I sent my older daughter to daycare years ago...in fact, I taught at a preschool for 6 years. I'm telling you this because it was a conscious choice I made. I was going to work from home and make a great living because I was unwilling to send my little to daycare after years of wanting another baby.

And here's what I really what you to understand. You have the ability to create your ideal life also!

How did I achieve my goal? One step at a time! There were steps in creating my goal.

You can create your powerful goal with these same powerful steps!

SETTING GOALS-Not your traditional SMART method!

  • Know exactly what you want. Sounds funny, doesn't it? But the truth is, a lot of people aren't quite sure what they want. Be clear about your goal. Some people will tell you to write your goal on a goal card, that's great if you like to have concrete visual aids to assist you.
  • Be passionate about your goal. A goal should excite you! You shouldn't have to be reminded to think about you goal, if your goal is powerful, you'll be thinking about it all the time! You don't require any reminders, it's right there always in your consciousness. With my goal of being at home with my baby girl, I didn't need anyone to remind me of my goal. I felt my goal in my heart.
  • ACTION, ACTION, ACTION! The smallest step forward toward your goal is so powerful. Reminds me of the question, "How does an ant eat an elephant? One bite at a time." You don't always realize how all the small steps assist you in moving forward, but it's these small steps that create the HUGE results. I can't tell you how many times making that last phone call or sending an email transformed my results, when all I really wanted to do was go hang out with my family. Take the extra step!
  • Visualize it. First you see it, then you create it. I love this step because you get to feel what's it like to create your goal, to see it, experience it before you actually manifest it physically. Take 10 minutes and create a mental movie of your goal. I always have my goal moving in my mind. I don't picture a still picture and I include people I know to my visualize, often talking to me, asking me how I manifested my goal so quickly.
  • Celebrate your wins. Celebrate even the tiniest step forward toward your goal. So often we look at what's still missing in our results instead of what we've achieved. Take a moment and enjoy achieving your movement forward.

With creating your goals, you are capable of so much more then you realize.

So, my friends, help me celebrate achieving one of my most powerful goals!

And while I enjoy sharing this with you...What's your goal that you're PASSIONATE about in your life?
